Surprisingly when I put on one of his early records strangely I find I know all the lyrics and remember the repetitive listening sessions, painting in my bedroom, getting stoned and feeling my own teenage hormone driven desolation row. Meanwhile the sun was shining brightly outside in our the clean and well landscaped West L.A. neighborhood. Hippie phrases like, "Be Free", "Life’s a Groove" and "Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out" were all easier said then done, especially if you were fifteen or sixteen and weren’t quite sure about anything in yr life, much less the cultural evolution. That’s why Bob Dylan was such a comfort. He was on the outside looking all around. Not really a joiner, more a poet. Maybe also, depressive and little passive aggressive? Huh what do you think?
